i was set to sail the seven seas
travel to the unknown
the lightness of a breeze
interlacing my tangles with ease
you were meant to be the tide
a push and pull of unforgiving depths
meant to collide
the sea held mystery vast and powerful
knowledgeable and masterful
the sea when lost can veer
become vengeful
selfish and doubtful
the sea knows how to sink a ship
water must fill in every crevice
it must drown
must suffocate all the life she’s willing to give
fill to the brim and she will
go
down
i knew the sea was to blame for my ship breaking ground.
me and my hundreds of planks all around
in every wreckage in every landing
i floated onward without finding
currents demanding
where would i end up?
where would i be?
it didn’t matter.
because i was free.
far away from salty whistles and tides
i ventured to greenery to live and love
to survive
but on those starry clear nights
i would think of the sea.
i kept a secret compartment
i kept a small piece of sacredness
from that darkness
unscathed and unmarked
a piece where the ship met the sea
a piece from the voyage
because i know what it meant
a piece of debris
something nobody can
take away from me.
